The Juno Pad

Most people notice the difference in the first few days — not because the pad trains your dog, but because it stops the floor from being an option. Put it exactly where the accidents already happen, not where you'd prefer them to happen.

Some dogs settle straight away. Others take a week of going near it before they go on it. Give it that week before you decide it isn't working.

Then you already know the two ways they fail: the backing is too thin and it seeps, or the edge isn't sealed and it wicks out at the sides onto your floor.

Ours is quilted through with a waterproof base layer and an overlocked border, which is why it holds at the edges instead of creeping. And it's 80 × 90 cm — most of the cheap ones are barely half that, which is the other reason people think washables don't work.

Less revolting than what you're doing now. Right now you're picking up a soaked disposable by the corner and carrying it through the house. This goes straight from the floor into the machine.

Normal cycle, hang or tumble dry low. Skip the fabric softener — it coats the fibres and cuts absorbency. That's the whole routine.

There's nothing in it to destroy. That's the honest answer. Disposables end up shredded across your living room because they're paper and plastic wrapped around loose filling — one bite and it's confetti.

This is quilted fabric with a stitched border. A determined dog can worry at a corner, but there's no filling to pull out and no film to tear, so you don't get the mess.

Here's the thing most people get wrong: the smell in your house isn't coming from the pad. It's coming from your floor, from every accident that soaked into the seams months ago.

This stops adding to that. Liquid goes down into the core and stays there instead of reaching the wood. Wash it every couple of days and the room stays clean — and stops getting worse.

One works. Two is what stops the 11pm problem — the one where the pad is in the washing machine and your dog needs somewhere to go right now.

Most people end up with two: one down, one clean. Three if you want a pad in more than one room, or if you'd rather do laundry once a week than twice.

It isn't about training an old dog. It's about the fact that they can't hold it anymore and they know it, and the accidents aren't their fault.

A pad in the right place means they don't have to hold it, you don't have to be up at 4am, and neither of you has to feel bad in the morning. That's most of what people tell us they wanted.

Use it properly first. Put it down, let your dog use it, wash it, use it again. We'd rather you tested it than kept it in the packaging.
